You just don’t get abstract art. You have to get the art of the early 60s, where hardedge painting was cool. They combined it with a rather strange animation. I’d say its much cooler then current ones
Ew…. I could only take about 60 seconds of it and had to turn it off. Yuck… I can’t believe they put that kind of crap on TV back in those days. I understand they didn’t have the technology we do today, but jeeze it looks like an acid trip. lol
the television western series BONANZA(which was telecast in color)often featured spots as the sponsor of the show, which also featured cast members like Lorne Greene, Michael Landon, Pernell Roberts, and Dan Blocker introducing a brand new Chevrolet product. FYI: Chevrolet was the sponsor of the show during its entire 14 year run on NBC from 1959 until 1973.
“THE DINAH SHORE CHEVY SHOW” (which was telecast in color) often featured two-minute spots for her sponsor, so this one was probably seen on her series as well….
Wow, this takes me back – way back! I expected Dinah Shore to sing the song, it was as much as an icon of Chevrolet as Chevrolet was of America in those days. Most interesting were the graphics. This was of course pre-CGI and was all done with film based photos through “darkroom” magic and we thought it was awesome. Nowadays it looks like kindergarten cut-outs, how times have changed. Great memories, thanks Joe!
You and David(FeetToeBandito) would get along so well, he’s into cars the same as you. He once rebuilt (restored?) an old Camero or some little sports car from the sixties. He says there are so many junk yards and salvage businesses in his area that he can find a part to nearly any kind of car you could think of, so keep him in mind during your future restoration projects.
This is one of the best TV commercials I believe to have ever been made and not a word is spoken. Must have been for a “Color Spectacular” because it is a 2 minute commercial and, obviously, is in color.

This spot was done by former Disney animation artist Eyvind Earle.

Looks very similar to the animation from Rocky and Bullwinkle. I bet there is a good chance that Jay Ward Productions did the artwork on this ad.

Loved listening to that jazzy music. I never owned a 61 (my first car was a 63 Impala). I now own 2 Subarus
